The Long Walk Home

Raymond Barlow (on the left of the picture) pays tribute to his friends and dedicates this story to Elmer Hepburn, in order to let his son and daughter know the bravery of their father.
Returning damaged from their raid on Stuggart on the night of 7/8th August 1943, Lancaster ED426 piloted by Pilot Officer Don Wares hit a ridge of high ground. Three of the crew were killed in the crash, two were taken prisoner and two evaded capture. This is their story.
