| 7/8 September, 1941; BERLIN/KIEL:
A force of nearly 200 aircraft was sent to Berlin, with good results being reported by crews. The squadron contributed 5 aircraft of which 4 were successful, the fifth bombed Kiel as an alternative. 15 aircraft failed to return from this operation, but all 49's were safe although 3 were diverted to other aerodromes. Three aircraft from the unit were detailed to attack Kiel, 2 completed their sorties and returned safely. Of the 51 aircraft dispatched against Kiel, 3 failed to return and one of these came from 49 Squadron.
