| 10/11 March, 1942; ESSEN:
The squadron contributed 11 Hampdens for an attack on 'Point
B' in Essen Old Town. Four aircraft failed to return from the raid, and 1 of these came from 49 squadron; P/O Bill Andrews (AT174) and crew were sadly all killed when E-Echo was brought down over Germany.
