| 20/21 January, 1942; EMDEN:
The squadron sent 5 Hampdens to attack Emden; 2 aircraft failed to attack any target owing to icing and failure of heating and 2 aircraft bombed the primary target. Of the fifth aircraft, no signals were received and the aircraft was reported missing. F/O Alex Harvey (AT148) and crew were shot down over Groningen by Obfw Paul Gildner of II/NJG.2. Sadly, all the crew perished when S-Sugar fell to earth near the farm of Mr Ritsema at Roodehaan, Noorddijk in Holland. The crew rest together in Noorddijk General Cemetery.
