| 7/8 May, 1944; SALBRIS: An
ammunition dump at Salbris was the target for 58 Lancasters and
4 Mosquitoes from 5 Group. The unit had 14 aircraft airborne
including two new crews piloted by F/O Simpkin (JB701) and P/O
Anderson (JB421). The bombing was accurate causing much damage,
but the raid did cost 7 Lancasters, one of which came from 49
Squadron. P/O Arthur Anderson and crew, flying their first operation with the squadron were sadly all killed and are buried in St. Doulchard Cemetery, Cher, France. JB421 (EA-K) P/O A.L.
