Takeoff at 2052hrs from Wyton.
Shot down by a night fighter and crashed at Berge, 5km WNW of
Nauen. The mosquito was part of the diversionary raid on Berlin
intended to draw the night-fighters away from the main target
at Peenemünde. F/O Cooke (an American) was reported to have
been buried in Döberitz but this is not confirmed. He is
remembered in the Maidenhead register. Sgt Dixon has no known
grave. |
